The spectacle was fantastic, unreal, supernatural. It seemed to suck the whole Earth into it. Having broken through the thick layer of clouds it kept growing. The ball was powerful and arrogant like Jupiter. At that moment, our aircraft emerged from between two cloud layers and down below in the gap a huge bright orange ball was emerging. The sea of light spread under the hatch and even clouds began to glow and became transparent. Said one aerial eyewitness: “The clouds beneath the aircraft and in the distance were lit up by the powerful flash. Windows in faraway Norway and Finland were shattered by the force of the blast. The world’s second atomic bomb, codenamed Little Boy, was exploded over Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. Everything within three dozen miles of the impact was vaporized, but severe damage extended to 150 miles radius-enough to entirely annihilate any modern major city, including suburbs. Although no information on the test was released until after the atomic bomb had been used as a weapon, the flash of light and shock wave made a vivid impression over an area with a radius of at least 160 miles. At 40 miles high, it penetrated the stratosphere. The mushroom cloud was 25 miles wide at its base and almost 60 miles wide at its top. The Tsar Bomba’s yield was 50 megatons: ten times more powerful than all of the ordnance exploded during the whole of World War II. The detonation was astronomically powerful-over 1,570 times more powerful, in fact, than the combined two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even so, the crewmen were told that they only had a 50 percent chance of survival (they barely made it.)Ī Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bomber. The bomb would be attached to a parachute to slow its descent to detonation at 13,000 feet, giving the bomber and its escort additional time to escape at least thirty miles away before detonation. A Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bomber was designated to deliver the device from 34,000 feet. A nuclear blast, produced by explosion of a nuclear bomb (sometimes called a nuclear detonation), involves the joining or splitting of atoms (called fusion and. Sakharov also played a significant role in designing this weapon, which incorporated multiple inter-reacting stages and was 26 feet long, almost seven feet in diameter, and weighed almost 60,000 pounds. The site chosen for testing this device was Mityushikha Bay on Severny Island in the Arctic Circle. Great Britain emulated these with open air atomic weapons tests in the late 1950s (France would follow with tests in Polynesia in the 1960s and beyond.) While the Americans focused on perfecting accurate delivery systems for small to medium size atomic devices, however, the Soviets concentrated on building larger and larger devices of almost unimaginable power. Both bomb types release large quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter. Courtesy of The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) photo stream.įrom there the United States and the Soviet Union carried out a further series of open-air tests of atomic weapons. A nuclear weapon a is an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission (fission bomb) or a combination of fission and fusion reactions ( thermonuclear bomb ), producing a nuclear explosion. The atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II codenamed Little Boy and Fat Man, respectivelycaused widespread destruction, leveled. "The thousands of nuclear weapons possessed by the US and Russia could bring about a nuclear winter, destroying the essential ecosystems on which all life depends. The Ivy Mike thermonuclear test, November 1, 1952. It is understood that he spent Saturday watching massive nuclear drills, which involved multiple practice missile launches.Īccording to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, (ICANW) "Less than one percent of the nuclear weapons in the world could disrupt the global climate and threaten as many as two billion people with starvation in a nuclear famine. Tensions in the Ukraine have been rising and Russian President Putin has reportedly been flexing his nuclear muscles Thousands of innocent people were killed, with estimates to as many as 226,000 losing their lives. Nuclear weapons have been dropped on inhabited areas only two times - both in 1945, when the US detonated two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The blast radius would be so big, tens of thousands of people in Liverpool and Leeds would be badly burned and disabled. The map shows that a far smaller, 50 mega-tonne Tsar Bomb - the biggest the Soviet Union ever tested - could kill 2.1million people and injure a further 2.1million. Should the same bomb ever be dropped on London, it could kill 5.7million and injure a further 3.4million. Not only would it claim 2.4million lives, the blast would also give people as far away as Leicester, Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent third degree burns. I echo your important messages of spreading love, and pledge to champion this spirit, and hope others forever do the same. Grace, a fellow member of the hockey club, despite being someone well in youth of me, (and far better at hockey than me!) was an inspiration, a true talent, and a big name for all the right reasons across the club, with a contagious smile. I did not know Barnaby, although from my friends in the cricket community I have heard nothing but words of such a pure hearted boy, a pleasure to be around and have as a mate. It is crazy to think it sometimes takes something like this to wake up the pure love of the community that surrounds us all, making us all realise the value and fragility of the life’s and bonds we have. Since, I cherish every moment and second greater than I have before, through the confusion, heartbreak and grief, i love greater and am more in tune with expressing this, for that, through this all, is where i see hope. YOU REDS!!Īfter my loved 4 years at Nottingham, Tuesday struck me deeper than I knew anything ever could, with a broken heart the entire day whilst I’m currently travelling since finishing recently. Ian and his family will certainly be in our hearts on that day and forever more. I’m sure on the first home game of next season Forest will pay tribute to Ian. My partner is 65, he and my son are massive Forest fans and their thoughts are with Ian and family. I really wish I could do or say something to help your pain, hopefully knowing so many people care and are grieving with you will give you a small crum of comfort.Īnd of course this also extends to Ian and his family. We really do feel your grief and will grieve alongside you from afar. My heart will always have a place for Barney, Grace and their families, you will all stay in my memories and my heart forever. I wish I could tell you how sad I am for you all. How can anyone relate to such a horrific tragedy. The loss you must feel is, I’m sure, insurmountable. With this in mind it brings your grief even closer. My younger son also hopes to go there is September. My elder son went to Nottingham university and used to lived a very short walk from the road where this tragedy happened. We live a long way from Nottingham but this feels very close to home. After just a few days, a dark patina will start to form on the surface of the pen. When it arrives, it’s a shiny bright gold color, but that changes as soon as you start using it. The Kaweco Brass Sport, the same as all other Kaweco Sport pens, is a small, pocketable pen when closed (only 10.5cm), but with the cap posted it’s a comfortable 13.2cm long.Īs I mentioned earlier, brass ages over time, and it only becomes more beautiful with use. Because the cap is lined with a plastic insert, it doesn’t weigh down the back of the pen, so it’s very well-balanced in the hand. It feels solid in the hand, but not to a point where it’s fatiguing to use. The complete pen totals at 43 grams, which is substantial for a pen this size, but not overly heavy. It feels solid, which is something I’ve always enjoyed in a pen. For me, the extra weight is a clear winner. Of course, the much heavier brass alloy (compared to lightweight aluminium) makes for some pretty drastic changes to how it feels in the hand. However, the use of brass gives it a completely different look and feel. The design remains the same: a large octagonal cap and small body, which makes it compact when closed, but large when posted. The Kaweco Brass Sport is, in essence, still exactly the same pen as all the other versions of the oh-so popular pocket pen. Put those properties in a pen, and you get something quite unique! Fortunately nowadays they are much more common, in part due to the contributions of German pen manufacturer Kaweco! Brass is different from most other metals that are commonly used in pens it’s about three times as dense as aluminium, and it forms a beautiful patina after some use. A couple of years ago, you’d have been hard-pressed to find a pen made out of solid, untreated brass. It will come as absolutely no surprise that the increase in royalties and audio quality with HiFi Plus boosts the price considerably. Through certain headphones and speakers, these two audio types can make the audio sound like it is playing all around you or filling the room, creating a more dramatic effect.Ī lot of these more advanced features were what especially stood out to us in our 4.5 star Tidal review. That is the highest possible resolution, or in other words, an unedited version of the song.Īlong with the Masters audio (which is available on a huge range of songs), you'll also get songs that use Dolby Atmos or Sony's 360 Reality Audio. While HiFi plays at CD quality, this plan boosts the quality to a maximum of 9216kbps. The other benefit of Tidal HiFi Plus is the different audio types. On top of that, your top artists will get paid based on your streaming habits (a better pay out for your dedication). While Tidal HiFi Plus does add a fair bit to the monthly price, it does also add a number of interesting features, mostly around the quality of the audio that you are experiencing, along with everything you get with the regular HiFi option.įirstly, up to 10% of your subscription is directed straight to the artists you listen to the most. We outline each plan below so you can make an executive decision when it comes to your preferred music streaming platform. With Tidal's main focus being on the quality of your audio, it will be no surprise that the more expensive Tidal HiFi Plus offers a much higher quality to your music. It Takes Two is likely the most innovative cooperative adventure to come out in a decade, and it might hold that title well into the next one.If you've tried everything above and can't get enough couch co-op fun, you might consider one of these games.ĭysmantle for $20 ( PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC ): Enlist a friend to help you survive on a monster-infested island by destroying things and scavenging resources. Each new stage is almost an entirely new game unto itself, and it's an absolute delight to discover its mechanical impetus alongside a good friend. For example, where Cody's given a sticky sap launcher, Mae's given a squirrel-tech flamethrower that ignites said sap in a glorious conflagration to remove obstacles or take down killer wasps. In a nutshell, each player is introduced to a unique mechanic that's specific to them in each level, and these mechanics have to work in tandem in order to progress. Hazelight has essentially fabricated a deeply engaging theme park of cooperative goodness in here, and no two stages are even remotely alike save for a common thread of well-executed platforming mechanics. This is precisely the tale told in the latest and greatest from modern visionary Josef Fares of Hazelight Studios, but really, the wacky plot undersells just how good the cooperative gameplay elements are. Because that's how you fix problematic marriages. Your parents are getting divorced, so they fall into a coma and navigate through a shared fever dream in which they've become miniaturized wooden or clay action figures and are forced through a series of fantastical and action-packed adventures at the behest of a sadistic anthropomorphic self-help book. It’s a great deal of fun when played alongside friends, and while the Xbox port of this PC title suffers from the occasional performance hiccup, the addition of split-screen multiplayer gels incredibly well with this spine-tingling survival horror experience. The second is that every seven in-game days, a bloodthirsty horde of zombies zeroes in on and assaults your precise location, giving you ample motivation to make full use of said building mechanics to construct a defensible fortress. The first is the most obvious - 7 Days to Die features an incredibly robust building and crafting system wherein the sky’s the limit. However, there are two core differences that set it apart from the crowd. 7DTD is in the vein of your typical post-apocalyptic zombie survival sim, replete with survival mechanics to contend with alongside the shambling hordes of the undead. The problem is that, really, that terse description isn’t at all far off the mark. It’s tempting to take the easy way out with this one by saying that it’s essentially Minecraft for horror aficionados. And you should be happy to note that aiming feels (a bit) better than it used to. In fact, there’s something incredibly appealing about how dated the game is when you have friends by your side to experience it with you. Grabbing some buddies and playing against each other couch co-op style is as enjoyable as it always was. Despite the clunky gameplay and blocky visuals, playing through this hallmark of gaming history is still a lot of fun, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the split-screen multiplayer component. That said, GoldenEye 007 also shows its timelessness. Controls feel floaty, and the graphics are definitely nothing to cry home about. Don’t expect a swanky remaster GoldenEye still shows its age. If you’re raring for a classic split-screen experience, GoldenEye 007 has suavely stepped its way out of the past and into the present thanks to its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass. A visual representation allows the reader to go through the content with ease while helping in better retention due to precise and concise information. In contrast, transition words such as alternatively and on the other hand are used.Īnother tip would be to use visual representations, such as tables and graphs, for numerical comparison and contrast. Some examples of transition words for comparing include: similar to and likewise. Also, these are different for both comparing and contrasting. They are words (or phrases) used to alternate between different topics that help keep the writing flow intact while ensuring the reader does not get lost. The most famous trick to compare and contrast is using creative transition words. The conclusion should still depict a proper ending for the discussion. At other times, it only gives a summarized version of the comparison. Usually, it helps to establish which of the options would be better. This involves a short critique of the comparison made. The last part of this discussion is the conclusion. The main body helps establish how two or more things are similar or how they differentiate from one another. Regardless of the structure the writer chooses, the comparison is essential.įor example, what to do when comparing and contrasting two cities? Discuss the varying locations, populations, time zones, and weather as the differences, and the cultures, shops, and food joints as the similarities. While some do the opposite, others write alternating between the two. Some write down the similarities before the differences. It is also important to notice that this part has no specific structure. Over here, the writer focuses on the differences and similarities between the contents. The main body holds the actual discussion. The thesis statement should be concise and clear and not discuss any details. Over here, one should state the two or more things that will undergo a comparison. It gives the reader an overview of what you will be working on.Ī thesis statement allows the writer to, in one line, explain what the upcoming discussion will be. In its simplest form, it's a summary of what the coming discussion entails. It also helps to summarize two separate sets of information in one single place.įor starters, in order to understand how you can compare and contrast something, it's essential to learn about the general content format that writers follow thesis statement, main body, and conclusion. The main purpose of doing so is to analyze content critically. In simpler words, it means to pinpoint differences and similarities. It is very common in academic writing to compare and contrast sets of content. How Do You Compare and Contrast Something?Ĭonfused about what the differences of these terms? |
